First Circular for the Barcelona Congress

First Circular
28th INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF PAPYROLOGY
1-6 august 2016
Barcelona, Spain
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to take part in the 28th International Congress of Papyrology in 2016 in Barcelona. The Congress is organised under the patronage and in close cooperation with the International Association of Papyrologists.
This is the first time a congress of papyrology takes place in our country, and we are thrilled to host it. We view this as a reward to our efforts in bringing together a team and making our main collections available.
Information concerning registration and abstract submission procedures will soon be posted on the Congress website: http://papyrologia.upf.edu/
Further information on accommodation, programme and events will be made available at a later date.
All correspondence will be sent by email: papyrologia@upf.edu
Venue
The Congress will be held between Monday, 1st and Saturday, 6th August 2016. All sessions will take place at the Facultat d’Humanitats of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (http://www.upf.edu/en/) (http://www.upf.edu/fhuma/)
The campus is located almost at walking distance from the Centre of Barcelona (the Old City), and it can be easily accessed by metro and bus. The venue boasts a modern auditorium and conference rooms fully equipped with audiovisual facilities. At the disposal of the Congress participants will be 5 conference rooms seating up to 125 persons, as well as a spacious auditorium for up to 350 persons.
Accommodation
The Congress venue is located in the neighbourhood of several hotels representing a selection of standards. The accommodation offer will be posted on the website and included in a later circular.
Sessions
Five days of sessions will be scheduled, leaving wednesday afternoon free. The sixth day will be reserved for the General Assembly of the AIP devoted to obituaries and a general discussion of current problems in our discipline.
The papers will be presented in one of the following languages: English, French, German, and Italian and will be restricted to only one paper per person, including shared communications. We encourage the use of posters for work-in-progress presentations.
There will be two plenary sessions, at the opening and the closure of the Congress, and five parallel sessions with 20 minute papers, followed by a 10 minute discussion. The number and subject matter of panels are yet to be determined according to the proposals admitted.
Posters will be exhibited in addition to the sessions.
The participants will be required to submit abstracts (max. 200 words) of papers and poster presentations by email to papyrologia@upf.edu from March 15th 2015.
Social events
The city of Barcelona and the surrounding areas have numerous interesting places to visit, and the cultural offer is extremely rich. The Organizing Committee will arrange some attractive tours open for participants and accompanying persons to take place in the days immediately following the Congress, as well as provide information about visits and sightseeing that can be done individually by the congressists. Details will be published on the Congress website. A dinner and a farewell party will be offered for all participants (dates to be confirmed).
